Rocky River ‘Riters

A diverse group, Rocky River ‘Riters began in 1994 as an initiative of the Rocky River Health Service to assist rural people to express themselves, especially in times of hardship including drought and rural decline. It began as a creative writing programme, and over the years has developed into a reading group, as well as a support and encouragement group.

Each month a book is read, which is then reviewed at our Gladstone meeting. We also meet at the Crystal Brook hospital activity room once a month to work at creative writing. We attend writing workshops when possible as well as book launches in the area.

Most members are not serious writers who are working on their own publications but are ordinary everyday people who enjoy reading, and creating stories and verse. We enjoy hearing each others stories and wish to share them with you.

Our members range in age from 93 years to 15 years! We come from towns surrounding Gladstone in the southern Flinders Ranges in South Australia. The Rocky River flows through this region and is the connecting link in our mid-north area.
